This event is a “Call to Action” for everyone.
The Greater Victoria Area (GVA), along with Seattle, is struggling with the social impact of unaddressed mental illness. Homelessness is just one by-product. It is estimated that 80,000 people in the GVA are living with a mental health disorder. Suicide, isolation, unemployment and emergency service involvement are a few examples of other symptoms. This is a simmering problem that is in the shadows and is not being recognized as a crisis. Fred Haynes, Saanich Councillor and Connections Place Board Member will summarize these extremely important issues for us.
Clubhouse International www.clubhouse-intl.org is an evidence-based program that has been rebuilding lives and saving tax dollars since 1948. There are 330 Clubhouse programs world-wide helping over 100,000 people each year offering people with mental illness opportunities for friendship, employment, education and housing in a single caring environment.
Registration is free; however, donations would be appreciated to help bring this much needed service to our community. The Saanich Legacy Foundation www.saanichlegacy.ca is our partner and donations can be made through this site.
We look forward to sharing this world-renowned model of rehabilitation with you and enjoying light refreshments as well. Thank you for supporting those with mental illness and assisting us to help rebuild lives!
