Event description

Description

Join us at the 2019 Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Canadian Municipal Network on Crime Prevention. Hosted by the City of Winnipeg, the 2 days will provide us with an opportunity to celebrate our members and membership which we have doubled since 2015, representing today 40 communities across the country. The conference will include presentations of community safety programs from members across the country, presentations of Indigenous led initiatives in Winnipeg, and a visit of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. There will be ample time to exchange approaches and ideas among members. We will also celebrate CMNCP's successes in 2019/2020 in securing a number of projects and our strengthened partnerships with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Motorola Solutions, UN Habitat, EFUS, and the International Board of Crime Prevention in Germany. Above all, we hope that you will leave this meeting inspired to advance community safety and crime prevention in your communities and to continue being part of this exciting movement to make Canadian communities safer.

Event Location

Winnipeg City Hall
510 Main Street (Administration Building) - 2nd Floor
Winnipeg, MB R3B 1B9

Event Date

October 16-17, 2019

The AGM will take place October 16th in the morning. We hope that we will be able to reflect on how far we have come and to discuss what the future holds for CMNCP.

The Conference will take place during the afternoon of October 16th and all day October 17th. The theme of the conference is "Bridging Reconciliation and Local Community Safety". Similar to previous years, we will focus on opportunities to interact and share practical experiences and lessons learned among practitioners. We will also include a number of presentations and site visits of municipal community safety initiatives that are culturally sensitive and that focus on estabilishing and maintaining meaningful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Cost

There is no fee for the conference. However, unlike the last couple of years, CMNCP is not able to support members with accommodation or travel costs.
