CMVan FieldTrip: Straight Line Designs with Judson Beaumont
Fri, 6 May 2016, 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM PDT
We've added a second FieldTrip for fans of CreativeMornings who got stuck on waitlist this month.
Have you ever wanted to design and build quirky furniture?
We're proud to offer the CreativeMornings/Vancouver community this special opporturnity to explore Straight Line Designs, a busy furniture design studio and workshop, and receive a jolt of creastive inspiration from CMVan alumni Judson Beaumont.
Jud will be meeting with the group down in the loading bay at 1000 Parker and proceed to take everyone through this historial and unique building. He will be touching on the different practices that go on in all the different studios and how a lot of them work cooperatively. The group will be brought to the Straight Line studio to look at current projects, chat about his history and past clients, as well as the complexities of owning a business.
Judson Beaumont, a Canadian born designer from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in his post secondary years where he studied at Emily Carr Institute for Art and Design University. He graduated from their 3-D department in 1985 and that same year founded Straight Line Designs Inc. In addition to installations, sculptures and private commissions, designer Judson Beaumont and his staff of craftspeople have designed and constructed a variety of custom-built furniture and projects for public institutions and children’s exhibitions throughout North America and abroad. Located at eclectic 1000 Parker Street amongst 200+ other artists, Straight Line Designs continues to produce engaging, whimsical, and surreal designs for the young and young at heart.
NOTE: like all CreativeMornings events, this FieldTrip is 100% free, but if you would like to make a donation to help support these volunteer-produced efforts, we'd be grateful to receive a small donation via our PayPal page.
