Dates: Saturday, August 12 and Saturday, August 19
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm

Description: This two-session course will teach the fundamentals of CNC milling using our Tormach PCNC 1100 3 axis mill. In session one of the workshop participants will be creating a 2.5D solid model and toolpaths using Autodesk Fusion 360. In session two of the workshop participants will learn safe and proper use of the Tormach including; the control software, machine setup, and work holding and fixturing.

Learning Objectives: Creating a design (CAD) and the toolpaths (CAM) for a part using Autodesk Fusion 360

  • Setup, configuration and operation of the mill
  • Work holding / fixturing techniques and proper tool selection

Agenda: Session One

  1. Design of part in Fusion 360 with determined features i.e. pockets
  2. Generating toolpaths in Fusion 360
  3. Material selection, speeds and feeds
  4. Toolpath simulation

Agenda: Session Two

  1. Operation of mill
  2. Use of control software (Pathpilot)
  3. Establishing machine and part references
  4. Work holding of part
  5. Running simulation in mill
  6. Running part in mill

Audience: For people who want to start making 3D products on the CNC router, and for people interested in continuing learning about CNC machining.

Duration: 3 hours

Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of CNC Router and 360 Fusion

Requirements: Participants need to bring their own laptops with V-carve Pro installed
