Event description

Co-Clic-Co! Social Media Trainings for NonProfits & Community Groups

Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms can be powerful tools for nonprofits to outreach, mobilize, and spread the word about their cause, but many nonprofits are at a loss on how to make social media work for them.

This four-part series of interactive, hands-on trainings, adapted to the needs and realities of community organizations, will explore the opportunities made possible by social media and deepen your comfort and familiarity with each platform.

Co-Clic-Co is offered by the Centre for Community Organizations (COCo). It is meant for people at a beginner or intermediate level of understanding. We strongly recommend that participants take all 4 trainings, but you also have the option of signing up for them individually.

Workshop #1: Defining your Objectives, Telling Your Story, and Finding Your Audience

Tuesday April 10th, 9h30-12h30

A good social media presence is built from your mission, the context your nonprofit is operating in, the audiences you want to connect with, and the goals you want to reach as an organization. Too often, nonprofits take a "laissez-faire" approach to their social media strategy, and end up not being able to see the forest for the trees. This session will focus on clarifying how social media could further your nonprofit's mission, and will lay the groundwork for your social media strategy.

Workshop #2: Choosing your Platforms

Tuesday April 24th, 9h30-12h30

Having defined your objectives on social media, this second workshop offers an overview of 4 important platforms for nonprofit organizations: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. We will discuss the possibilities and challenges of each platform, help you get comfortable using each of then, and decide where to focus your limited time and resources.

Workshop #3: Facebook, In Detail

Tuesday, May 8th, 9h30-12h30

Facebook is the most widely used social media platform in the world. For many individuals and organizations, it is the only platform they use. We will look at how to use an "Organization Page"; how to understand Facebook analytics; how to schedule posts, how to use Facebook in multiple languages, how to use events and groups, how to target audiences, and how to use Facebook Live.

Workshop #4: Ethics, Netiquette, and Dealing with Trolls

Tuesday, May 22, 9h30-12h30

This session will help your nonprofit create a social media policy that will encourage your community to participate, while limiting risks and liabilities for your organization. How can we make sure we respect the confidentiality of our members? How do we decide who is in charge, and has access, to our social media accounts? How can we respond to criticism, attacks, or harassment on social media?

Each session costs 75$, but the total cost if you register for all four workshops is $200. To do this, first click on the blue button "Choose a Date"; choose one of the available dates; and then click the green button for "ticket". You can then choose "All 4 Trainings (Reduced Rate)".

If you are only coming to a few of the trainings, please ensure you have selected the correct dates and times.

How do I get to the venue, and is it accessible?

La salle est accessibles aux fauteuils roulants, ainsi que la salle des bains.

La station de métro la plus proche est la station Mont-Royal. Les lignes 80 et 97 sont également des options.

What should I bring with me?

Bringing a laptop or tablet is ideal, although COCo will supply a few additional laptops for your convenience, and participants can also share. If you already have social media accounts, please ensure you know your passwords!

Who can I contact if I have questions?

Send an email to kirap@coco-net.org!

Can I edit my registration afterwards?

Do I need to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No need!

The name we registered isn't the same as the person who is attending. Is this OK?

No problem. However, if you are going to send several people from your organization, please let us know in advance so we can make sure to have enough space.
