Are you looking for a new tool to add to your leadership toolbox? A ‘questioning’ methodology and coaching perspective can be an effective tool for non-profit leaders to support the growth, development, engagement and capacity for self-direction of those they lead, and foster healthy relationships within their teams and organization.

Coach skills have been introduced to leaders across a wide range of sectors since the 1990’s. Coaching is separate from mentoring, consulting and training. The coach becomes a ‘thinking partner’ helping the coachee to create a vision of the ideal future state; challenge limiting beliefs and assumptions while identifying strengths and blind spots; create and determine viable options while holding the coachee accountable for action.

In this two-day workshop, participants will experience the power and process of coaching to build more effective teams and to nurture the development of their key people. Participants will learn and practice coaching behaviours and skills and determine how they will integrate these into their own leadership style in developing others.

 United Way’s Learning Centre is delighted to partner with Irene Friesen-Hughes to bring you Coaching for Leaders: Mindset, Process, Skills & Practice. Join Irene on Monday, March 5, 2018 and Monday, March 12, 2018 for this two day workshop beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. each day. Registration is priced affordably at $275 per person (including snacks and a light lunch), however, if cost is a barrier to participation, please call Tamara Ingrilli at 204-924-4242 or email

Workshop Description

At the end of the two days, people will walk away with the following:

  • Define coaching, identify the mindset and behaviours of an effective coach, and when coaching is useful to support others’ growth in competence and confidence;
  • Describe how coaching is similar to and different from other development practices;
  • Identify the key steps in the coaching process and describe the focus and intent of each stage;
  • Apply a coaching process, use a variety of coaching skills and demonstrate coaching behaviours in coaching conversations; and
  • Identify current personal leader-coaching strengths and opportunities for personal development.
