Event description

Description

Kids learn the elements of a cool video game - such as game structure, character design and stimulating sound - and then create their own game using Scratch, an introductory programming language created by MIT and used by millions of budding programmers worldwide.

Codezilla Game Makers coding camp

Workshop Details

This week-long program furthers the fundamentals of coding. Kids create interactive video games that build upon their math and critical thinking skills, and feature super heros and pop culture characters like Harry Potter, Star Wars and more.

  • PRICE: $425 per week. No HST.
  • DATES: July 17 - July 21, 2017
  • TIMES: 9 - 4pm. Extended care (4-5:30pm) is available for $10/day, paid seperately. Please email sheri@codezillakids.com for info.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Kids may bring their own laptop. Otherwise, laptop provided by Codezilla.
  • CURRICULUM: includes Basic and Advanced content to ensure that all kids progress according to their abilities.
  • CHILD-TO-ADULT RATIOS: smallest class sizes guaranteed (3:1 or 4:1 ratio)

Help Harry collect as many Golden Snitches as possible without touching the Dementor!

Why Should Kids Code?

  1. CODING IS A SUPER SKILL: Instead of simply playing a video game, kids learn how to create a video game! This helps build their confidence, technical skills, and perseverance (grit) to succeed.
  2. CODING HELPS WITH MATH: Coding uses math skills like logic, patterns, sequences and coordinates -- and it's more engaging than workbooks or tutoring programs.
  3. CODING LEADS TO JOB OPPORTUNITIES: there will be +1M well-paying and unfilled computing jobs by 2020, yet less than 3% of degrees are in computer science.

Who Is This Workshop For?

  • Intermediate/Advanced Level - some prior coding experience using Scratch is required. Each workshop includes Basic and Advanced content to ensure that all kids progress according to their abilities.
