Event description

Description

Did you know that music and coding share many similar principles? Whether your child plays an instrument or just loves music, they'll enjoy transferring these skills into a video game with interactive and note-worthy animations!

Kids will create a musical project using Scratch, a popular and kid-friendly program developed by MIT for learning the fundamentals of computer programming. This workshop is taught by a rocker musician who also codes -- and is sure to be wildly melodic!

Workshop Details

This workshop is a great introduction to the fundamentals of computer programming. Kids create an interactive and musical project that builds upon their creativity, problem-solving, math and logic skills.

  • PRICE: $38. No HST.
  • AGES: 8 - 14
  • DATE: Sunday, July 9, 2017
  • TIME: 3:00 - 4:30pm
  • REQUIREMENTS: Kids must bring their own laptop.
  • CURRICULUM: includes Basic and Intermediate content to ensure that all kids progress according to their abilities.

Why Should Kids Code?

  1. CODING IS A SUPER SKILL: Instead of simply playing a video game, kids learn how to create a video game! This helps build their confidence, technical skills, and perseverance (grit) to succeed.
  2. CODING HELPS WITH MATH: Coding uses math skills like logic, patterns, sequences and coordinates -- and it's more engaging than workbooks or tutoring programs.
  3. CODING LEADS TO JOB OPPORTUNITIES: there will be +1M well-paying and unfilled computing jobs by 2020, yet less than 3% of degrees are in computer science.

Who Is This Workshop For?

  • Beginner/Intermediate Level - No prior coding experience required.
  • Parents are welcome to relax in the spacious lounge at CSI-Annex.
