Event description

Coffee and Careers is a monthly community-driven conversation on top-of-mind topics lead by the ever changing Future of Work. Challenge Factory has been holding these conversations for five years and is excited to be bringing this energizing and truth-focused event to CSI. Expect great conversation, data and evidence to challenge commonly held myths and practical tools and tips to experiment with on-the-job in between these monthly events.

The session is meant to be informative and thought provoking but it is mostly a time for us to jointly explore the topic that was presented through your shared and lived experiences. By approaching each topic as a myth, we ensure that every session is completed by either confirming or dispelling the myth that was presented. Our discussions may even spawn the topic of the next event.

January's conversation starter:

True or False?: Parental leave and parenting demands impact career success.

Participating Organizations:

Why host the event at CSI?

Challenge Factory is best known for our work in understanding and demystifying the future of work. Holding our event within Toronto’s oldest and most socially innovative co-working communities you will not just talk about your career and the future of you – you’ll experience it. From the space we use to the people you meet. From the food entrepreneur we experiment with over breakfast to the resources that are shared. This is not just about the coffee – although, of course, exceptional coffee is always included!

What is a Food Studio?

CSI is Canada’s leading social innovation platform. More than a community centre or co-working space, CSI seeks to amplify innovation between its members and broader community. It recently launched a new Food Studio kitchen space to support early-stage food-based entrepreneurs. The food studio, located on the ground floor of CSI’s Annex location, is a great example of how platform-based models (one of Challenge Factory’s 5 Drivers Shaping the Future of Work) are challenging outdated workplace models.

What to Expect:

How long does the event last?

Each Coffee and Careers event lasts for one hour. We book the space for an extra half hour to allow for networking and community building.

What is the dress code?

The dress code is casual. Being that this event takes place on a week day, we anticipate that many will attend the event at the beginning of their workday. So dress for the next event of your day and you’ll fit right in.

Do I need to take notes?

Usually, as we look across the room, many Coffee and Careers participants are taking notes for many different reasons. Bring some form of note-taking book or device – as suggested from previous participants.
