Strategic Communication: The Media Release
Strategic communication is the use of techniques to manage and guide communication in order to reach desired business and organizational goals. To do this, communication professionals create plans which focus activities to align with business and organizational goals, identify priorities, allocate resources (budget and staff), and measure results.
Today’s coffee chat will focus on the development of one aspect of a communication plan; the creation of a media release. The media release is a very common communication tactic used to reach external audiences. These are sent to various media outlets such as newspapers, magazines, and broadcasters as well as published on organizational websites and shared through social media channels. It is an excellent communication tool that can be used when resources for advertising and other paid forms of communication are limited.
