John Gordon Armstrong - John Gordon Armstrong studied composition at the universiteis of Toronto and Michigan, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Composition and Theory at the University of Ottawa. He has won prizes in William St. Clair Lowe and Sir Ernest MacMillan competitions, and received grants and commissions from the Laidlaw Foundation, Canada Council, OAC, Alberta Culture, CBC, and City of Ottawa. Among others, the Guitar Society of Toronto, Guitar Canada, Norbert Kraft, William Beauvais, Canadian Guitar Quartet, Victoria Guitar Trio, Verdejo Duo, and Continuum Trio have commissioned and performed his solo, chamber and orchestral pieces across Canada and in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Korea, Norway, Vietnam, and the USA. His music is distributed by the Canadian Music Centre, and published by Alberta Keys, New Art Music, Oceanna, and Cypress. Works for film, dance, and theatre include 12 collaborations with Odyssey Theatre. In a decade of partnership with Susan McMaster, he generally incorporates her poetry as lyrics. “November Suite” is the first joint work inspired by Susan’s poetic response to one of John’s compositions: “ImproVisions”. This is the world premiere of the collaboration.

Barbara Dyck - Barbara Dyck enjoys connecting people to the arts in her rural Ontario setting. She teaches group and private piano lessons from her studio and performance space at The Colour Jar in Durham, a family-run art and bookbinding business. Barb studied piano and harpsichord at Goshen College, Indiana, and received a master’s degree in piano pedagogy and performance from The New School for Music Study through Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. She composed "Crossing Arcs: Gift to be Simple" in collaboration with Susan McMaster for the 2015 Words Aloud Festival in Durham; this is its Ottawa premiere. It was inspired by a script and composition by Ottawa musician Jennifer Giles based on the Susan's poetry collection "Crossing Arcs: Alzheimer's, my mother, and me". Though unable to travel to the festival, Jennifer was pleased with the new partnership between Barbara and Sue. Recordings of both compositions are forthcoming.
