Description

Join us for the exhibition opening of Collecting Personal Archives, a Community Arts Space project by soJin Chun in collaboration with the Truth and Dare Project.

About Collecting Personal Archives

In partnership with Gallery 44’s OUTREACH program, the 519 and the Truth & Dare Project, local artist soJin Chun will work with a group of young Muslim women from Toronto to present a group exhibition that brings their unique visions of Toronto to life. Archives, which have traditionally been defined as “a collection of historical documents or records providing information about a place, institution or group of people”, exist within the context of systematic and political structures, often gathered by those in power to narrate colonial histories. This project will take a more personal approach to the archive model, expanding its meaning to include images of popular culture, personal photo albums, images shot by the participants, as well as objects that are meaningful to their lives.
