Introduction to Collections Management

May 15 and 16, 2018 | Park Place Lodge
2 Days, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Collections are at the heart of a museum, and represent the institution’s main Public Trust responsibility. Participants will be introduced to the policies, practices, and skills needed to manage museum collections. This course moves from broad concerns relating to public trust, cultural diversity, and planning through to issues in the areas of acquisitions, records management, loans and deaccessioning.

This 2-day event is part of a 4-day collections management workshop.

Managing Unmanaged Collections

Previously unmanaged museum collections present even greater challenges. Participants will learn steps to create order from a chaotic assemblage of objects, and to develop systems that will help maintain the methodic development of a collection.

Introduction to Past Perfect Collections Management Software

1 Day, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

This 1-day workshop is an introduction to using PastPerfect collections management software for donor contact management, registering and cataloguing artifacts, and using multi-media features to publish objects to an online database. This course will be taught using Nomenclature 4.0.
