Our first workshop and pitching session will be Thursday, October 13th from 4:30-6:30pm in the Collider.
The October 13th workshop is mandatory for all participating Collide teams and highly recommended, as it will involve validating your business model using lean entrepreneurship techniques.
The format of the workshop will be as follows:
October 13th Workshop: The first half of the workshop will consist of a Lean Startup session and the second half will consist of team pitches with feedback. The Lean Startup methodology revolves not around the question “Can this product be built?” but instead, the questions “Should this product be built?” and “Can we build a sustainable business around this set of products and services?”. This workshop will be led by Dr. Mary Kilfoil, Academic Lead for Launch Dal. To prepare for this workshop, please visit the website www.udacity.com and enroll in the open (free) on-line course “How to Build a Startup” and review the lean canvas approach.
October 13th Pitches: Pitches will be a maximum of 5 minutes in length. During the pitch participants must give an overview of:
- the problem you are solving
- the market (who are the competitors in the market)
- your competitive advantage
- your idea and the customers targeted
- How you will make money (revenue model)
- Where are you now? Do you have customers? Are you in the market?
Although this workshop is open to everyone, only Collide participants will pitch.
Feedback: Mentors will provide teams with valuable feedback regarding your pitches and areas of improvement.
