Event description

Description

Pre-K and Elementary Educators: Have you every struggled with finding the time and energy to figure out quality Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) lessons that teach skills and knowledge your students can relate to and engage with? We have a solution! Attend a free two-day workshop to learn about how to incorporate STEM kits that are easy to use and teach. These lesson kits are locally designed and teach grade appropriate STEM knowledge within the context of the Columbia Gorge region.

Each participating educator will receive a $500 stipend as well as multiple kits at the end of the STEM Institute to teach in their classroom. These kits are meant to be supplemental to existing curriculum and can be added to enhance understanding of a topic by bringing our region's unique context into the learning process, so your students will not only learn in the classroom, but also through what they see around them in their daily lives.

Participants will receive peer support on implementing STEM from the local STEM experts who created and adapted these Columbia Gorge STEM kits. These experts work in early education, local middle schools, non-profit organizations and out-of-school education organizations. Participants will also receive an introduction to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) from Oregon State University's Science & Math Investigative Learning Experiences (SMILE) program instructors.

Space is limited to 20 total educators with space parceled by grade levels taught.

7 places for Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade educators

6 places for 2nd and 3rd grade educators

7 places for 4th and 5th grade educators

We look forward to having you enjoy us!
