Canadian Open Math Challenge

by Canadian Mathematical Society

Grades 7-10 - $15

The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) is Canada's premier national mathematics competition that is open to any student with an interest in and grasp of high school math. The purpose of the COMC is to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem solving. The competition serves to provide teachers with a unique student enrichment activity during the fall term. Approximately the top 50 students from the COMC will be invited to write the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). Students who excel in the CMO will have the opportunity to be selected as part of Math Team Canada -- a small team of students who travel to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Depending on grade level and performance, students participating in the COMC can also have opportunities to garner awards, to win prizes, to be considered for scholarships, and to get invited to camps. The contest is scheduled on Thursday November 2 from 9am – 11:30am. Registration costs CAD$15.00 per student in Canada. The contestants will require to miss part of the school day.

Spirit of Math Schools Markham East

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Spirit of Math Schools Markham East! It is our pleasure to be serving Markham’s young minds for over nine years. Our management team and exceptional teachers are eager to help our students achieve their true potential.

Since beginning of last academic year, we have moved into our new and state-of-art school with large, inviting and bright classrooms where our teachers train the next generation of exceptional thinkers and problem solvers. We are very of proud of our friendly staff and amazing teachers who are here to provide a sense of community to all parents and their children. Our students’ achievements in national and international math competitions are the best proof of how the right environment can help young students rise to the top.

Although our focus is on teaching math and problem solving, our curriculum is designed to teach our students other essential life skills such as cooperation, collaboration and communication. Most of our new students are referred to us by parents of our current students who wish to extend this opportunity to their loved ones. We would like to extend an open invitation to all parents to drop by for a visit and see how their exceptional children can experience our premier education program.

Sincerely,
Ramzan Khuwaja & Mohammad Rezai
