Comics and Zines! A 2-day workshop with Andrew Gaboury
Event Information
About this Event
"How do you say it? Z-eye-n?"
"Nope!"
"Z-ee-n?"
"That's right!"
Over the course of this 2-day workshop we'll dive into the diverse worlds of comics and 'zines! We'll unpack the mechanics of comics writing, learn about the world of 'zines, discover techniques for page layout and copying and, of course, we'll construct our own 'zines!
Zines and Comics are two of our favourite topics because, while they've definitely become mainstream with recent movies, there's a deep library of fringe and grassroots creations that really play with the medium. We can't wait to share them with you.
Things you'll need for this workshop:
Writing implements (pens, pencils, sharpies, etc.)
Paper (8.5 x 11" is fine!)
Scissors or craft knife
Ruler or sharp edge
Optional: magazines or old books/comics you're willing to cut up
Optional: glue
Optional: design software such as Publisher or InDesign
Optional but an eventual need: Scanner/Printer
