Action Alberta BBQ. Coming together to strengthen calls to anti-racism action in Edmonton schools
About this event
The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) invites community members, students, educators, school administrative staff, and members of the school governance bodies to get together on July 9th, 2022, to further discuss, shape, and design strategies to move anti-racism action in Edmonton schools. Hoping for the heat of summer, and out of the school routine, we will gather around food to nourish our conversations on how to support each other’s anti-racism efforts.
After the publication of the Action Alberta Report in April 2022, we continue to hear of efforts and voices that will strengthen the calls to action, make them more attainable, and center our attention on the most important changes. strengthen the calls to action, make them more attainable, and center our attention on the most important changes. Therefore our intent is that on July 9th, we will get together to keep building relationships, incorporating those new voices, and deepening the calls to action. We will continue to do this work rooted in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission- Calls to Action and the National Inquiry for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls- Calls to Justice (specific to education), and centered around the experiences of current parents and teachers of diverse backgrounds to ensure that going to school is a dignifying path for all.
We will be honored if you take the time to join us to strengthen efforts to ensure the children and youth get the best experience in the educational systems where they are respected, protected, and recognized for their diverse backgrounds. We all hold a bit of this responsibility and the community calls us to act together.
Lunch: BBQ will be provided and we will do our best to accommodate your dietary needs.
