At this intimate dinner event for Senior Communicators, Cheryl Jensen, President, and Chief Executive Officer at Algonquin College will offer insights on working effectively with CEOs, the best methods for building relationships with the C-Suite, and how to gain visibility and influence within your organization.
Over a three-course dinner at Social, Cheryl, accompanied by Scott Anderson, Executive Director of Communications at Algonquin College, will share her knowledge, perspectives, and lessons learned throughout her successful career. This intimate event welcomes questions and lively discussion and is a unique and informative event for communications professionals at senior levels.
About Cheryl Jensen, M.Ed, President and Chief Officer, Algonquin College
Cheryl Jensen joined Algonquin College in 2014 as the eighth College President, bringing with her more than 30 years of experience in the college system.
Under her leadership, Algonquin College has formed new and exciting partnerships with The Ottawa Hospital, Siemens Canada, the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, and Shopify, offering students work-integrated learning opportunities and facilitating collaboration in support of local economic development.
Cheryl also led the development of a successful proposal to secure a $25 million investment from the federal and provincial governments for the construction of a $45 million entrepreneurship, innovation and learning centre and a one-of-its-kind institute for Indigenous entrepreneurship.
Cheryl serves on the Boards of The Ottawa Network for Education, Invest Ottawa, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), and the Ottawa Beechwood Cemetery and Beechwood Cemetery Foundation. She is also a board member of Polytechnics Canada and a member of the Business/Higher Education Roundtable. She is the recipient of a Hamilton YWCA Woman of Distinction award and a national leadership award from the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
Cheryl joined Algonquin from Mohawk College, where she held the position of Vice President, Academic, from 2009 to 2014. She first joined Mohawk as a Chemical Engineering Technology professor in 1983 and served as Dean, Executive Dean, and Vice President of Engineering Technology, Apprenticeship, and Corporate Training. Cheryl also worked as an analytical chemist at Stelco Inc., and as a product development chemist at Proctor and Gamble early in her career.
Cheryl holds an Honour’s Chemistry degree and a Certificate in Metallurgy from McMaster University, as well as a Master of Education in Organizational and Administrative Studies from Brock University.
