Event description

Description

As a foreign-trained professional with a different cultural background in Canada, you may experience challenges with miscommunication, mispronunciation, poor grammar and lack of clarity when communicating.

These challenges can raise doubts about your competence, breed a lack of trust, hurt your brand and leave a poor impression on the recruiters, clients, and colleagues.

Immigrant job seekers facing these challenges may or may not receive feedback from recruiters after interviews that could be as a result of these communication challenges.

Workshop Objectives

Have you ever been treated in a way you didn’t like?

Have you ever been ignored or embarrassed because you were at a loss for words or maybe others didn’t understand you?

When communicating, are you assertive, confident and know what you want to say or are you timid, barely audible and passive or loud and aggressive?

Because of her experiences, Gloria Pierre of Clearly Speaking believes how you communicate is how you are perceived and how you are perceived is how you are treated. If you don’t like the way you are being treated, you should look at the way you are communicating.

As a result, she specializes in communication training which includes topics like pronunciation, grammar, accent reduction, sharing ideas, speaking in meetings, asking better questions, speaking in an organized way so your message is clear. You communicate in all your interactions. The more effective your communication is, the more successful your interactions are.

This one-day workshop will give you the techniques to present a more confident image in all your interactions. It will address pronunciation and your challenging vowels and consonants through vocal exercises, introductions, immediate feedback and reading out loud. By the end of this intensive 1- day training, your pronunciation will be improved and you will be easily heard and understood.

Register now and start changing your image so you could be taken seriously and be considered for a job, a promotion or a project.

Facilitator

Gloria Pierre started her company, Clearly Speaking, in 2000 after a workplace incident revealed she was inept at handling situations assertively.

Through research and interviews, she discovered communication is the one skill everyone uses regardless of their status, education or experience and that your success hinges on how well you are able to communicate. As a result, she developed programs to empower her clients to command attention and respect by expressing themselves more clearly, more confidently and more concisely.

Gloria has been training and coaching speakers, presenters, executives, entrepreneurs, and native and non-native English speakers to communicate their ideas effectively and respectfully. She has coached people who presented at the White House in Washington, spoke at Air Canada Centre and presented at the UN.

She has spoken at conferences in Canada, the United States, The West Indies, and South America and at events in Canada. She wrote six books to complement the training she offers.

She has appeared on Breakfast Television, Global TV, Omni TV, and New Canadians TV and was profiled in Metro newspaper, radio, The Star Business Club and quoted in Cosmopolitan Magazine. Gloria is doing what she is passionate about and intends to change your awareness of communication as a personal marketing tool.
