Event description

Description

Join your fellow midwifery students for a 2 hour workshop with Hartley, a communication coach who facilitates theatre and improv in workshops aimed to improve communication, collaboration, empathy, and leadership for healthcare students and professionals. This 2 hour workshop will be engaging with creative applied drama exercises as well as reflections for professional practice.

Healthcare, like theatre, is both an art form and a skill set; clinical interactions and patient encounters combine unpredictable situations, information-gathering, and a need for adaptability. Applied drama and improv uses the principles, tools, and practices of theatre in non-theatrical settings for the purposes of skill building, collaboration, reflection, and innovation. Through theatre games and improvisational exercises, in this session we will think creatively on our feet, engage in reflective practice, and enhance wellness through creative play.

Learning Objectives:

1) To define applied drama and improv and identify its role in healthcare education (can be changed to midwifery specific).

2) To describe 3 fundamental rules of improv and their applicability to health education and wellness.

3) To experience the energizing, focusing, collaborative and self-reflective processes in an applied drama and improv session.

Spots are limited for this workshop, RSVP your spot by registering on Eventbrite.
