Description

Welcome to Community Coders x RED Academy: Learn Design Thinking!

As a high school student, there might be times when you’re approaching a school assignment, a project, or your job where you’re unsure of how to solve a specific challenge. Whether it’s the fact that you don’t know where to start, or how to approach a certain problem - learning a proven, systematic thought process that allows you to become more innovative will separate your solution, product, or service from the rest of the competition.

Welcome to Community Digital x Red Academy: Learn Design Thinking. In this event, we’re going to be going through a workshop and a panel that’s designed to help you, as a high school student apply design thinking to your everyday life.

More specifically you’re going to learn...

  • How to apply design thinking in tech.

  • How UX/UI designers collaborate on tech products to create engaging experiences

  • How to understand how brands want to be perceived

  • How to use the user's current impression of the brand to understand where improvements can be made on a digital landscape

  • How design thinking will allow you to become more creative in and outside of school.

In the last half of our event, we’ll be hosting a panel session in which you’ll get to...

  • Learn about the application of design thinking and receive insights from a panel of RED Academy grads and Community Coders Ambassadors who are currently working in the industry as Digital Marketers, UX/UI Designers and Developers.

  • Connect with speakers who use design thinking in their everyday lives.

Still hesitant on going? We’re also going to be having pizza for you to snack on while you’re learning, courtesy of Panago.

Carlos Georgescu: Carlos Georgescu is a grade 11 student at Moscrop Secondary school in Burnaby. As a little kid, he had a strong interest in social entrepreneurship, starting as early as 7 to help organize local environment campaigns for climate awareness. When he was in grade 9, he co-founded Rehumanity, an organization that spreads awareness about global issues and plans/executes sustainable actions to combat them. In the next two years, he helped grow it into a government-sponsored organization running in 6 different countries, 20 schools with over 400 members. It has become one of Canada’s biggest non-profit organizations completely founded and ran by youth. In his free time, he enjoys coding web platforms, swimming or watching action movies. Ask him anything about how he uses technology to connect hundreds of youth around the world to what Netflix series he plans on watching next!

About Red Academy:

We're a technology & design school with an agency-style environment that focuses on real client projects in UX/UI design, web development & digital marketing.

Tech needs more talent, more innovation, and more inclusivity. Despite the demand, traditional models of post-secondary education are not preparing students for an industry that’s constantly changing. So, we decided to do something about it.

RED is for people who want innovative and fulfilling work. It’s for having creative freedom, making connections, and having a say in what happens next.

It’s for designing your tomorrow.

About Community Coders:

Community Coders provides high school digital marketers real work experience to develop local businesses' online presence.

Youth empowerment and strengthening our local businesses are ingrained in the heart of what we do, and why we do it.

We believe that youth should have the opportunity to recognize their potential through meaningful work involvements outside of the traditional learning model.

By working with small to medium-sized businesses from all different industries, we take pride that our students have been able to create a variety of effective websites, paid advertisement campaigns, and organic social media management services.

To foster the growth of youth education and empowerment, we provide students with the opportunity to learn in-demand digital marketing skills through our community, workshops, partnerships events, and learning units that are currently under development. Our Community Digital alumni have been able to use their experience as a stepping stone to get into their ideal universities, receive internships, or move on to full-time roles in the tech industry here in Vancouver.
