Event description

Description

Do you or your family have a personal connection to the 1907 Anti-Asian riots or the neighbourhood around that time? Share these experiences with us at our next community consultation session, coming up on Saturday, December 8, 2018.

The riots and their impact are the focus of a 360° video walking tour currently in development by local artist Henry Tsang. The tour follows the route of the mob that formed during a parade and demonstration organized by Vancouver’s Asiatic Exclusion League, and ran amok through Chinatown and Japantown (Nihonmachi). The attack took place over the course of three days, leaving shattered storefronts and communal pain in its wake. The project addresses this lesser-known part of Vancouver’s past and how it ties into our present. We are looking for stories from the community as well as historical records to help plan the video tour.
