About the Community Farms Roundtable

The Community Farms Roundtable is an opportunity for farmers and community farm supporters to gather and to explore common ground and mutual challenges and talk about what community farms need to be successful. Community farms is used as a broad term inclusive of a wide diversity of farming models that include shared farming and/or shared land.

At the first Community Farms Roundtable held in 2009 a Community Farm Network was formed as an inclusive association that welcomes the participation of people and groups supporting community farms in BC. The Network was developed to share best practices in cooperative and sustainable farming and living.  The purpose of the ongoing Roundtable meetings is to create opportunities for sharing inspiration, information, and ideas for advancing sustainable models of farmland access, ownership and governance.

2014 Roundtable Theme and Sessions

The 2014 Roundtable will have a focus on the potential for establishing a new farmland trust to facilitate community driven protection and management of actively farmed agricultural land. There will be sessions devoted to discussing the potential role of a new provincial farmland trust, the most suitable model for the trust, and how to move forward with the development of a provincial farmland trust in BC.

Program Preview (final program details coming soon):

  2. Open Space Sessions - Topics of discussion to be determined by participants
  3. Explore O.U.R. Ecovillage’s community farming and living through a guided tour
