Event description

Description

In the next five years, Toronto’s youth courts will change. The Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) plans to consolidate most of Toronto’s criminal courts, including youth courts, in a new Toronto courthouse (NTC) downtown. As a non-profit that works with court-involved youth, we know that including youth courts in a "megacourthouse" designed to deal with adult criminal justice is not the right way to support justice-involved youth and ensure community safety.

We invite community members, youth advocates, justice professionals, families, and youth to come together to share perspectives and experiences with Toronto’s youth justice system.

At the forum we will hear from justice professionals, youth workers, community members, and youth and their families about the importance of specialized youth court services and spaces. This is an important opportunity for Toronto’s youth justice community to work together: to ask questions, voice concerns, and envision a better future for youth justice infrastructure.

If you have any questions about the event and the future of youth courts in Toronto, or if you require any accessibility accomodations, please contact Sara Fruchtman at sfruchtman@peacebuilders.ca
