About this event

Community Foundation Philanthropy Fundamentals:

This course will review the trends, tactics and strategy of soliciting and managing major donations of cash and how to accept gifts like securities and manage assets like registered funds, endowments and advised funds. This goes well beyond fundraising into the roots of the future of philanthropy in Canada. This course is delivered in collaboration with the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and is CFRE accredited.

Who should attend:

  • Foundation Executive Directors looking to have stronger donor conversations
  • Finance staff looking to understand how to accept and administrate gifts of assets(ie. Life Insurance & Bequests)
  • Fundraising staff who wish to raise more major and planned gifts from donors
  • Foundation staff who want to learn how to work more collaboratively with professional advisors

Our presenter: Paul Nazareth has been part of Canada’s social-profit sector for over 20 years. Now Vice President, Education & Development at the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, he has most recently been VP at the charity CanadaHelps as they scaled in donations to now over $250M a year and has visited over 100 Community Foundations across the nation. He has been a philanthropic advisor with Scotia Wealth working with Donor Advised Funds and spent over a decade with charities like the University of Toronto and the 230 Churches of the Catholic Church of Greater Toronto. Paul is on the board of several charities, is Chair of the Advisory Board at the Humber College postgraduate fundraising program, the Carlton Master of Nonprofit Leadership Advisor Committee, a speaker with the Association of Fundraising Professionals in every Province, a national faculty instructor with CAGP and the Knowledge Bureau. Paul is also an instructor with Advisor networks like CPA, Advocis and local Estate Planning Councils.

In order to make this program successful, we request full participation and attendance to the following sessions. Each session is 90 minutes. One registration includes the three courses.

  • November 3 : Course 1 : Taxes, trends and core gifts
  • November 24 : Course 2: Common Planned Gifts
  • December 8 : Course 3 : Turning theory into practice – running a philanthropy program

This series is only for members of Community Foundations of Canada and registration is limited to one per Community Foundation.
