Community Mosaic Art Workshop
Event Information
About this event
Conversations are a doorway.
As part of AACT’s Conversations with Elders Project, the lead artist, Sarvenaz Rayati, has designed a mosaic mural inspired by the arch structure found in architecture.
Arches have been used for thousands of years in historical sites and monuments in Sarvenaz's home country, Iran. To her, an arch symbolizes passage and transition. Like an arch, conversations lead us into a new space of understanding.
In this hands-on mosaic workshop, we would like to invite members of our communities and art enthusiasts to join us to learn about the design and the techniques behind this mosaic mural. Building on the centrepiece that Sarvenaz created in her studio, participants of this workshop will each create a piece of the mosaic to complete the arch mural.
Each participant will make a mosaic piece using a 30x30 cm wood panel, coloured glass tiles, and glue while following the design and instructions. All the small mosaic pieces made by participants will be added to the mosaic installation to create a larger image.
The mosaic installation will be on view at the TIFF Bell Lightbox atrium for the duration of the project. Participants will collect the piece they made at the end of the project.
This event is free. We ask you to kindly consider a donation to our organization here. All contributions will go towards many more free community activities in the future.
