Event description
Are you a non-profit or charity considering social enterprise? Why start one, when you can buy one?

About this event

This session is hosted by Scale Collaborative, Island Coastal Economic Trust, Community Futures Central Island, and Community Futures Cowichan for organizations between Parksville and Shawnigan Lake.

More and more, nonprofits are looking to engage in social enterprise in order to generate revenues, provide inclusive employment opportunities, and/or further their mission. Over the next few years, hundreds of businesses will come up for sale across BC. Acquiring an operating business provides an opportunity to leapfrog over years of start-up and bring your operational capacity to an existing business, transitioning it to a social enterprise.

This session will outline the acquisition process, the unique considerations of nonprofits and charities, and introduce nonprofit-specific resources to help explore acquisition options. We will share stories from nonprofits that have acquired existing businesses and transitioned them to social enterprises, warts and all!
