A FREE workshop to show affordable housing providers, community groups, etc. the options available to go Solar and be more energy efficient.

About this Event

This free workshop examines the opportunities for affordable housing providers to reduce their utility costs and carbon footprints. The basics of how a utility-tie solar system works, and the steps needed to develop a project, large or small, will be covered. We will also explain the investment opportunity for community groups under Alberta’s new Small Scale Generation Regulation and examine the role that Solar Power Investment Cooperative of Edmonton can offer for community impact investing.

The workshop will include a design work groups to explore the possibilities of developing Community Benefit Agreements between solar developers and community groups. This event is for affordable housing providers, community groups and anyone interested in developing a community or individual solar project.

Topics include:

  • How a solar grid-tied system works
  • System components, siting factors, snow, hail, and other common concerns
  • The steps involved with project development
  • Permits and interconnection agreements
  • Government programs and incentives update
  • The economics of solar PV
  • Options for larger “net-export” projects under Alberta’s new Small Scale Energy Regulation
  • Impact investment opportunities for community groups
  • The role of Community Benefit Agreements
  • Inspiring community examples

This workshop is a collaboration between Solar Power Investment Cooperative of Edmonton, Northern Alberta Co-operative Housing Association and Energy Efficiency Alberta.
