Share your thoughts on how data & technology can be used to create a stronger, more human social response

About this event

To truly create better social outcomes, it is essential that individuals seeking help, service providers, and decision-makers have the right tools and information at their disposal.

Edmonton has proudly been selected as one of three communities in Alberta to participate in the Compass Project. The goal of this project is to design technology and data systems that can better connect people to help, support information and referral, provide data for decision-making, and integrate information and services.

As a part of this project, we are asking service providers to share their input on:

  • The challenges they face when it comes to the supporting clients
  • How we can remove administrative burden from the sector and streamline operations
  • What, where, and how better data and information can support Edmonton's social goals

Why attend a session?

  • Have a say in what a new social tech platform should look like, as well as how to improve the HelpSeeker navigation platform
  • Help take information sharing, collaboration, and social impact to the next level in Edmonton

Organizations are encouraged to attend at least one of the sessions below:

Consent and Tech: The who, what, where, when, why, and how of accessing client information. June 1, 2022

  • Do you support client referrals on a regular basis? Do you have ideas on how to reduce administrative work to make the lives of non-profit staff easier? Do you want to support better collaboration with other agencies, but don’t have the support to make that happen? This session will dive into how principles of ethical consent for information sharing can be built into digital tools, making referrals easier and a more positive experience for both service providers and users.
  • Participants: Program managers, frontline workers, system navigators

Practices in Digital Transformation June 15, 2022

  • Digital technologies, when used effectively, can tremendously improve the delivery of social services. Transitioning to new ways of working, however, can be challenging for organizations. We know the importance of having the proper organizational capacity and strategy when it comes to implementing new digital practices. In this session, we invite you to reflect on different approaches to making these changes, what it would take to build your organization's trust & confidence in technology, and consider how digitization could benefit your organization.
  • Participants: Executive directors, program managers

Let's Get Coordinated: Referral Support Tools June 29, 2022

  • Referrals are an essential component of connecting people to the right supports. Whether it’s about diversion and prevention, or simply making sure a person gets connected to a support, Edmonton needs the right tools & processes to make sure referrals are made effectively. With a specific focus on reviewing emerging prototypes and providing immediate feedback, this session seeks to lay out the information that service providers in Edmonton need and want, to work more effectively.
  • Participants: Program managers, frontline workers, system navigators

HelpSeeker's team will also be in contact with different organizations through the course of the project on topics such as evaluating and assessing system performance, cultural storytelling through data, and researching how technology can be leveraged to create a more inclusive social response through surveys, interviews, and more.
