Unity is a powerful tool that you can use to make games (and other applications too) !

Come join us for a weekend of creativity, innovation, and learning! Concordia Learns Unity is a chance to learn about game design, to meet new people, and to get hands-on experience with game design and development.

This event is catered towards new users who have little to no experience with Unity and game development. The software will be taught through the lens of making games.

How's it gonna go down?

Day 1, Let's make Pong:

  • 9am-945am: Registration and coffee
  • 10am-12pm: Let's start making pong
  • 12pm - 1245pm: Lunch break
  • 1245 pm - 1 pm: We all watch a learning video together :)
  • 1pm- 3pm: Finish up pong
  • 3pm-330pm: Chill hangout land
  • 330pm-6pm: Free-play and customization time!

Day 2, The Endless Runner:

  • 9am - 10am: Early bird coffee and collabing
  • 10am-12pm: Let's start making the endless runner
  • 12pm - 1245pm: Lunch break
  • 1245pm - 1pm: We all watch a vidya and talk about it
  • 1pm- 3pm: Finish up the endless runner
  • 3pm-330pm: Chill hangout land
  • 330pm-5pm: Free-play and customization time!
  • 5pm-6pm: Closing ceremonies

Who can participate?

Any student registered at Concordia can attend this event for 10$. If you want to bring a friend who's not registered at Concordia, you can buy them a ticket.

Concordia Learns Unity is accessible to any student. We welcome artists, developers, enthusiasts, game designers, sound designers, writers, thinkers and more. If you have an interest in any aspect of game design, you are invited to attend.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. You do not need to be an expert. You do not need to have created a game. Concordia Learns Unity is a great introduction into the world of game design. Our organizers, and mentor teams are all dedicated to helping you no matter your skill level. We welcome everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background.

Starter-Pack

The CMG Starter-Pack is a pre-packaged bundle of software and tutorials sent to all participants in Concordia Learns Unity. It contains helpful links and tutorials to prepare for the event, as well as information on the game engine Unity, which is what CGD recommends for this event.

How much does it cost?

Registration for the weekend costs $10 per attendee. All proceeds go to paying for hot drinks and snacks, the venue, and other expenses. All that remains goes into other stuff to make the event better for everyone.

What do I need?

What will be provided by CGD and Concordia Makes Games:

  • Internet

  • Workspace (tables, chairs, whiteboards etc)

  • Mentorship

  • Refreshments and snacks

What participants should bring:

  • Laptop

  • Smiles

  • Lunch (or lunch money)

When and where?

Concordia Makes Games will be hosted in on the 7th floor of the Hall Building in the Sir George Williams campus. The event will be on Saturday November 25th, and Sunday November 26th.
