Join us outside for a circuit style of rotating workshops, designed to offer a diverse approach to enjoying the deep winter cold. Blending survival skills, movement activities with seasonal information and comfort foods, this day will leave you feeling inspired and capable of connecting to nature all year long.

Children who are attending with their adult can participate in a Forest School style adventure in the forest trails behind the house with trained staff for their own unique winter experience or participate in workshops with their parent.

*parents of children in the Forest School area must remain onsite at all times.

Workshops- rotating 30min at each station

  • Outdoor Skill Development: Shelter Building

    • using tarps, ropes, branches and blankets we will be able to set up a temporary shelter to gain some reprieve from the wind or snow and warm up in a hand built cozy space.

  • Forest Exploration: Hiking and Hiding

    • wander the trails along the river bank and through the woods spending time in quiet reflection while also participating in a grown up game of hide-and-seek!

  • Winter Biology: Information from an Expert

    • join Jim Duncan for a session of valuable insight and awareness of the diversity in our natural world that is still present in the depths of winter

  • Outdoor Skill Development: Fire Building

    • gathering around the warmth of the fire is a vital component to extending your time in the cold weather. At this station you will have opportunity to practice your fire lighting skills as well as contribute to the collective meal made on the open fire.

  • Common Sense in the Cold: Empowering your Discernment

    • take a break from the outdoors and warm up with group conversation and general information on how to assess the weather without an app as well as the temperatures of our bodies and of the children in our care.

  • Community Nourishment: Food around the Fire

    • We will end our day together around the fire pit and enjoy a meal prepared on site. At this time we can sing, drum, dance and shares our experience from the day! Our passion for the outdoors connects us in a way that we may not share with the general population, feel the support of community and connect with other families before heading home.

Extending our time outside in winter in Manitoba is vital to our overall health and well being. By the end of this experience you will be more resilient, well connected and informed leading to your ability to Conquer the Cold!
