Conversation Skills and Friendship Building By Crystal-Lee Clark
Event Information
About this Event
About the Presentation:
Being able to make and maintain friendships can sometimes be difficult. However, keeping up with the social expectations to make this happen can be even more of a challenge. Often, we can miss out on thinking about how conversation skills grow out of play and continue to develop through adulthood. It is never too early or late to start practicing and improving! Join Crystal in exploring the importance of conversation in building friendships and how conversational expectations change over our lifespan. She will touch on the different skills that learners need for having more successful conversations, conversational expectations for different ages, the role of conversation in friendships, and practical ways to practice conversation skills.
About the Speaker:
Crystal Clark, MA, BCBA(Behaviour Analyst)
Crystal has worked with individuals with autism and social complexities in the lower mainland since 2004. She received her master’s degree in Autism Studies at the University of Kent in Canterbury in 2012 focussing on social skills therapies in educational settings.
She became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) in 2013 after completing her Behaviour Analyst Certification Board coursework at Pennsylvania State University. She started practicing as a Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and social group facilitator at Able Developmental clinic in 2013. In 2016 she moved on to launch her own behaviour consultation group, Celerate Behaviour Innovations (now also Spark It!), and in 2018 her own social skills groups, Spark It!
Crystal loves to work with people of all ages, believing that learning and developing social skills are a continuous journey. People being able to use their skills independently out in the world is the most important goal that drives Crystal’s practice and teaching. She focusses on sparking small habits to make things happen!
