About this Event

Kenneth Deer, co-chair of the indigenous caucus presents to Native Immigrant the 25-year story of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The process began in 1974 following the experience at Wounded Knee 1973. The International Indigenous Treaty Council, working together with Mapuche exiled from Chile provoked the first gathering of the world’s indigenous peoples at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland in 1977. Kenneth’s presentation begins at that point and brings us right up to date.
