Event description

Description

Join us for the second of a 3-part series of accessible, educational, and honest community conversations designed for white residents of Thunder Bay seeking to understand colonization, racism, and our responsibility in addressing it.

The focus of our second community conversation is decolonizing. What is decolonization? What does it mean to decolonize yourself? Where do we start? Why is this important?

Conversations are facilitated by Melanie Harding & Angela Gollat using the Lewis Deep-Democracy Method, born out of South Africa’s transformation from apartheid to democracy. The Lewis Method draws wisdom from disparate groups and bridges divides, leading to transformation.

This series has been inspired by a growing community desire to address the racism crisis in Thunder Bay, calls from Indigenous leaders for the non-indigenous community to address racism among us, and the Conversations Across the Racial Divide events held in Thunder Bay in February 2017.

Our intention is to approach these difficult conversations with curiosity, humility and vulnerability, creating an accessible and participatory learning opportunity.
