Cooking Class for Witness in Uganda
Event Information
About this Event
Cook-along at home with Chef Andrea and support a great cause! 100% of proceeds go to directly support our friend, 7-year old Witness and the family who cares for her.
Andrea will be cooking a Ugandan meal. Thanks to Witness' care-giver, Lucy for sharing her recipes! In this class, we will be making a typical Ugandan preparation of stewed chicken, as well as banana cakes.
This is a Zoom class that allows you to:
1) Support a family in need
2) Learn a new recipe and maybe shake up a boring meal routine
3) and have dinner hot on the table with dessert!
Now that is a cause worth supporting!

About Witness: (pictured above- the kid with the party hat on flashing the peace sign)
She is a resilient young girl, lively and smart with a heart of gold.
She lost her Mom (single parent household) to AIDS and is herself HIV positive (her viral load is currently low, thanks for ARV drugs, which we want to assure she maintains access to!)
She is cared for by a wonderful, enterprising, loving young woman named Lucy (pictured above in the green jacket), who also cares for other orphaned children.
Lucy is making sure she has a family structure, gets to go to school, has proper nourishment and recieves medical care.
Why Witness Needs Our Help:
The funds raised go directly to Lucy to supply Witness and her cohort with the necessities to weather the challenges ahead as:
1) Constant oppressive poverty keeps everyday people in Uganda living day-to-day with food insecurity. Your money goes to provide food security and essential nourishment for Witness and her family.
2) Covid-19 has intensified the situation in many ways, including shortages of food, oppressive curfews (and physical violence for people who don't abide the curfew rule), all as the children- who do not have reliable access to computers- fall behind in school. (Stats show that uneducated girls are far more likely to become child brides)
3) The oppressive government is using Covid-19 as an excuse to shut down opposition in the upcoming election and is under intense scrutiny by the UN for its unlawful, undemocratic tactics to eliminate any opposition and supress the resistance who demand change.
4) There are deadly protests in the streets right now. The children are becoming scared as people are shot at with live rounds in the street by police and fired at with tear gas.
Our news cycle is saturated with our local/national pandemic situation, as well as US politicical news. We need to raise awareness about what is happening in Uganda, let them know that the world is watching!
