Description

Fall for Biodiversity!

Nestled between Cootes Paradise and the Niagare Escarpment, the lands and waters within the Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System are a Canadian biodiversity hotspot. Discover the unique plants and animals of this area by becoming a citizen scientist for an afternoon. Join local experts for the third Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System Bioblitz.

- Become a citizen scientist for the day and join local experts on a guided hike to identify plants and wildlife.

- Already an expert? Be a part of the 24-hour BioBlitz on Friday, September 20th.

New for 2019: Saturday September 21: Native Plant Sale and Public Pavilion. Visit community groups showcasing important native species and wildlife. Local plant vendors will be selling native plant species.

What is a BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz brings together taxonomic experts, citizen scientists and the general public to inventory all species (plants, animals, fungi, and more) in an area over a 24-hour period. Participants record all the organisms they find, and then experts verify their identity. You can learn more here.

The 2019 Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System BioBlitz and Plant Sale will run rain or shine; however the guided hike schedule is subject to change based on weather.

Registration IS required for experts and guided walks. Registration is NOT required for the public pavilion.
