Description

Copper Jewellery (Introductory Level)
Date: April 28, 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm
Instructor: Paul Moore
Fee: $50 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $58 plus HST (Non Members)

This one day workshop will afford students the opportunity to delve in the world of copper jewellery. We will be making two different take home projects. There is skill development overlap on each project with the next project adding new skills. We will be making a pair of copper earrings and a copper cuff.

Material Fee:
$25 (payable to the Instructor at the start of the workshop).

Paul Moore is an avid beach glass collector, wire wrapper and jewellery designer. He and his wife can often be seen walking Dominion Beach searching for special pieces of beach glass. About three years ago, on the encouragement of a friend who is a wire wrapper, he began to use the glass they collected, incorporating it into beach glass jewellery. They have been selling the jewellery under the name Sea and Sand & Moore for the past four years.

More recently, Paul expanded his interest into silver and copper design. Mostly self-taught, his designs have a national and international appeal and Sea and Sand & Moore has customers locally, nationally and internationally. Paul is a regular instructor at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design and a member of the Metal Arts Guild of NS.

Copper Earrings: Students will have the opportunity to produce a pair of copper earrings. Skills development will include designing a unique pair of earrings, sawing and cutting sheet copper, texturing the copper, drilling and finishing.

Copper Cuff: Using readily available materials, students will make a small copper cuff. Skill development will include pipe cutting, pounding, filing, texturing, shaping and polishing.

As time allows, students will likely be able to design and make a second pair or earrings.
