Which came first? The science or the science fiction? Quite often they inspire each other and tonight we'll explore the real science between finding extraterrestrial worlds, and the potential for finding life!

Cosmic Nights is back at the Space Centre! Discover the wonders of the universe - over drinks! Join us Thursday, November 23rd for Cosmic Nights: Science of Science Fiction a party for the space geek in all of us! This is a 19+ event.

7:30pm or 9:00pm - Planetarium Show: Science Fiction in our Universe

Tatoinne? Pandorica? Arakkis? How science "fiction" are these worlds? Go on a visual journey through our universe exploring some famous science fiction worlds while we compare them with some actual worlds that we are now discovering! In this live show our astronomer will show us the latest discoveries of real alien worlds!

8:00pm and 9:00pm - Science of Science Fiction Lecture - Kiyoshi Masui - UBC

Bio: Kiyoshi is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia. His research interests lie in cosmology where he work on theory, data analysis, and observations. Cosmology (a division of astrophysics), is the study of the evolution of the Universe on the largest scales. More specifically he works on the large-scale structure of the Universe and observations of the structure at radio wavelengths.
