Our Spring 2021 Virtual Networking Event provides an opportunity for Alberta CPAs to learn and network with local non-profit organizations.

About this Event

The CPA Community Ambassadors of Alberta Spring 2021 Virtual Networking Event will allow Alberta CPAs to learn and network with local non-profit organizations. This two-hour event features two key topics: Board Governance and Resiliency & Remote Work Strategies. Spaces are limited, so please sign up as soon as you can.

Non-Profit Organizations interested in hosting breakout room during this networking event should send an email to communityambassadors@shaw.ca by as soon as possible to secure their space.

Date: April 23, 2021

Time: 12:00pm to 2:00pm (Mountain Standard Time)

Place: This is a virtual event being hosted through Zoom. A link will be provided to attendees in advance of the event date.

Cost: FREE

CPD Hours: This event may qualify for up to 2 CPD hours.

While this webinar may qualify for verifiable CPD hours, CPA Alberta and the Community Ambassadors are not issuing a certificate of completion. Breakout Rooms: What is the purpose of the breakout rooms?

The breakout rooms will allow your non-profit organization to network with CPA attendees and build direct connections. It will also allow your organization to advertise and reach out to potential volunteers or gain support for your organization’s activities. Please email communityambassadors@shaw.ca as soon as possible to request a breakout room. There are 15 breakout rooms available and they will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Speaker Bio for Board Governance:

Elaine Wong , CPA, CA, CISA, CRMA, ICD.D

Elaine is a Partner in KPMG Calgary’s Risk Consulting practice and is a leader in providing risk management and governance services in Calgary. Elaine has over 20 years of risk advisory, governance and compliance experience. Elaine has assisted many organizations, including those in the Not-for-Profit sector, on the implementation and evolution of various risk management and governance programs to support the strategic direction at these organizations. Elaine is passionate in supporting our community and firmly believes that as citizens of our community, one of our roles is to support and provide back to community. Elaine is currently a Board of Governor member and the Chair of the Audit Committee at the University of Calgary. Elaine also completed her term as a Board member and the Chair of the Audit Committee at the YWCA in Calgary. In her governance roles at these organizations, Elaine provides her experience, knowledge, and expertise in risk and controls, technology, and governance to support her oversight and fiduciary responsibilities at these organizations. Elaine is a Chartered Accountant, a Certified Information Systems Accountant, is a Certified Risk Management Assurance professional, and has an Institute of Corporate Directors designation.

Speaker Bio For Resiliency & Remote Work Strategies:

Laurence Zalmanowitz, M.Ed.

Laurence (Laurie) Zalmanowitz is a Registered Psychologist specializing in counseling and performance psychology. He received his BA in psychology from the University of Arizona and his Master’s in Counselling Psychology from the University of Western Ontario with a focus on sport/performance psychology and athlete motivation. Laurie’s other areas of interest and expertise include anxiety, depression, stress management, performance enhancement, mental skills training, injury rehabilitation, trauma and transitions. Laurie has been a guest speaker at the University Alberta, Faculty of Law promoting mental health awareness and wellness and has also served as a guest speaker in the faculty of physical education and recreation.
