THEME: Parents as Partners in Program Enrichment

Open to parents, educators, trustees, PIC representatives, and administrators, this special event is your chance to hear from leaders in the field with a variety of perspectives on French Second Language (FSL) best practices along with positive directions in FSL education. The conference will be in English.

1. What’s with boys and language learning?
Drawing from current research on best practices and in psycholinguistics, learn about how we can better include boys in second language education through gamification and a more integrated, authentic use of technology. Particular attention will be paid to learners manifesting signs of hyperactivity and attention deficiencies.

2. The State of FSL in Ontario….what's trending?

3. Conversational French Class
Engage parents and Core French students with this new *CEFR-driven conversational approach. Experience it for yourself in this workshop and learn how to access the downloadable teacher’s guide and student package. *CEFR: The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

4. À L'ÉCOUTE …Listen, Discover and Speak
Discover À L’ÉCOUTE with over a hundred resources designed and produced by IDÉLLO for French Second Language (FSL) teachers and students. À L’ÉCOUTE is based on Ontario’s FSL curriculum and is categorized according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). IDÉLLO, developed by GROUPE MÉDIA TFO, is a learning platform with educational resources for teachers, educators, students and parents.

5. French Second Language Education: Past, Present and Future (K-Gr. 12)
French Second Language pedagogy has changed significantly since you were a child!
Presented by Jennifer Kruithof, FSL Consultant, Waterloo Catholic District School Board

6. How can we support primary FI students so that demission from the program is a last resort?
Demission in later grades is a common outcome, but is there a better way to address the needs of struggling FI students? Could early identification of at-risk students be a possibility? What would this look like? This workshop will address this challenging issue and propose a means of early identification supported by current research.
