Description

The Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA) will provide training sessions for front-line professionals who work for organizations offering services to people who many have legal problems.

The Calgary Ability Network (CAN) is partnering with CPLEA to offer four legal training modules to CAN organizations, free of cost! The four modules will be offered two at a time, over two days.

CPLEA Session 1 includes Module One and Module Two:

Module One: Helping Clients with Legal Issues

  • The Canadian legal system in a nutshell
  • How to identify legal issues
  • Connecting clients with legal information and services
  • Identifying relevant areas of the law
  • Triaging legal issues
  • Finding reliable legal information
  • Referring clients for legal advice
  • Helping without hindering - legal information vs. legal advice
  • Where clients can go for help

Module Two: Family Law in Alberta

  • The Canadian legal system in a nutshell
  • Understanding the family court system in Alberta
  • Child custody and parenting
  • Financial support
  • Protection orders
  • Where clients can go for help
