Event description

Description

Continuing this new informal lecture series presented monthly over the course of our current exhibition, guest speakers present on different aspects of contemporary art and practice.

Judy Anderson and Cruz Anderson will speak to the art behind their collaborative projects which includes graffiti and beadwork. Both artists will provide a brief history of graffiti and important information regarding the practice, followed by Cruz teaching the different letter structures involved in creating graffiti. Judy will then speak about beads, and beading while touching on Cree belief systems.

Judy Anderson is Nēhiyaw from George Gordon First Nation, SK, Treaty Four Territory. Anderson is an Associate Professor in Canadian Indigenous Studio Art at the University of Calgary. At the same time, she is a practicing artist who works in a variety of media, and for a portion of her practice she works collaboratively with her son, Cruz Anderson.

Cruz Anderson is a Cree artist from George Gordon First Nation, SK. He is currently a student studying classical realism at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto, ON. Anderson's work is primarily 2 dimensional focusing on his Indigenous identity through traditional European techniques of rendering.
