Drop-in Public Art Activities
Art Makes You Happy Colouring Mural by Serena Chu Come join artist Serena Chu and colour in a collaborative mural banner! This collaborative design will feature scenes of Chinatown, and is accessible to all ages and walks of life. Creating art together brings positive vibes, happy memories and delights the senses. There will be a some hidden objects to scavenger hunt for as you participate in this collective art piece.
Celebrating CETA Strathcona Mosaics by Bruce Walther The entranceway mosaics at Strathcona Park were created by a group of individuals through the Carnegie Centre in 2005. Each small circular mosaic is a unique artwork created by an individual artist grouped together in patterns based on crop circle designs. Celebrating CETA Strathcona Mosaics pays tribute to these and the artists that created them, some now passed away, and inspires the community to create a new community mosaic.
Flights of Fancy by Richard Tetrault Working from pre-cut plywood forms of birds, participants will be asked to interpret and project their own designs, thereby creating an improvised, mosaic quality. The final works will be suspended as if in flight.
Drop-in Art Demonstration
Storytelling with Naomi Steinberg The stories Naomi tells come from all over the world; Traditional stories, wondertales, folktales, fairytales – old stories with new words, new stories with old wisdom. Stories made to breathe again.
Textile Waste Wall Art with Madeleine Chaffee Madeleine Chaffee demonstrates how to upcycle old textiles and bicycle wheels into a colorful and textural wreath or wall decoration. This demonstration offers a hands-on station for audiences to try knotting techniques to reform ‘waste’ into art!
