Event description
Create your custom moccasins with Storyboot School master craft artist, held at the Bata Shoe Museum

About this Event

Mukluks and moccasins have been worn for thousands of years by original peoples of Turtle Island. Through the generations, they have become an intricate and beautiful art form, demanding patience and incredible skill from the craftspeople who make them. Their creation is a time-honored tradition that tell stories of language, history and place. Storyboot is helping Indigenous communities reclaim and revive this art while facilitating craftsmanship, cultural understanding, creativity and achievement. With our focus on Indigenous artists, we hope to see these benefits felt for many generations to come.

Storyboot School, held at the Bata Shoe Museum, teaches participants the art of moccasin making. During the workshop, Storyboot master craft artists share their stories of the moccasin and their bead design. It is a way to continue the art of storytelling, sharing oral histories and the history of Indigenous fashion.
