Description

Establishing a non-profit with or without charitable status is a difficult decision with significant responsibilities. This presentation will discuss:

  • The differences between for profit, non-profit and registered charity
  • How to achieve 'good' both inside and outside the charitable sector
  • Issues to consider when exploring charitable registration
  • How to set-up a for profit, non-profit or registered charity
  • How to apply for charitable status
  • Why many organizations would be better off not applying for charitable status
  • Problems with alternative arrangements such as “fiscal sponsorship” or “trusteeship”
  • How an Indigenous community can obtain qualified donee status and the ability to issue tax receipts without becoming a registered charity

This session will also run at 5:30pm to 8:00 pm. Click here if you prefer to register for the later session.
