Event description

Description

Confused as to how to hold a conversation around wellness in the workplace? Not sure what you can or cannot discuss? If so and you would like to learn how to easily and expertly encourage these sensitive conversations, then please join Champions Career Centre on June 29/17 and learn how to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness through inclusive conversations.

Why?

Disabilities are increasingly recognized as having a significant impact on workplace productivity and a Conference Board of Canada report indicates depression and anxiety cost the Canadian economy $50 billion annually. Recently the Calgary Chamber of Commerce produced a report on mental health in the workplace calling on the business community to take needed action on the issue of mental health protection and promotion in the workplace. With many people suffering in silence due to fear of rejection and judgment, addressing mental health issues at work is vital for Calgary companies. No workplace is immune from the risk of mental health problems, regardless of size or sector. With the economic downturn in Calgary and a current unemployment rate higher than it has ever been, placing emphasis on a mentally healthy workplace is timely.

To address this need, Champions Career Centre, in partnership with The Talent Pool, has developed a workshop called “Creating Mentally Healthy Workplaces through Inclusive Conversations”. This three hour session combines education and group work along with a toolkit that enables employers to successfully engage in inclusive conversations in the workplace. Whether it is pre-employment, post-employment or return to work situations; you will learn how to create and start the conversations that matter. The results of this workshop will support mental health awareness as a best practice and will help to create a psychologically healthy workplace.
