Event description
5-week (one day per week) art therapy group, max 8 people, online ( via Zoom).

About this Event

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is a 5-week series, and will run weekly (on Monday's) from Jan 18 to Feb 15, 10am - 12pm PST.
  • Jan 18 | Jan 25 | Feb 1 | Feb 8 | Feb 15
  • PLEASE NOTE: This group is a continuation of my 5-week Getting Unstuck group - so you must have already participated in one of those in order to register for this one.

________________________________________________________________

These Creative Practice groups won't have a set theme. They will be a continued (and ongoing) space for us to be together (online)- to check in, process, express, make, integrate, rest, regenerate, and share our faces and voices. To create, and chat, and see how that unfolds for each of us.

A few notes

  • This group is for folks who have participated in one of my previous GETTING UNSTUCK groups (and is a continuation of that work).
  • The group will be small, maximum 8 people.
  • Because all sessions will be held online (on Zoom), I will not be providing art materials, please see below for suggestions of materials to gather!
  • Registration is open to adults only.
  • It's important that you plan to be in attendance for all 5 days of the series. I do understand that life sometimes throws things sideways ...but my ask is that you please not register if you know in advance that any of the dates won't work for you.
  • I will be adding future dates for this series, so if this one doesn't work for you maybe the next one will!

MATERIALS LIST

I've included some links below to an online art supply shop, so that you can see what some of these things look like. The items I've linked to are some of my affordable favourites, but please try to use what you have ...and do not feel obligated to purchase any particular brands or specifics. These are just suggestions!

  • Paper (ideally white, mixed media/watercolour/cardstock, at least 8.5"x11"). Other colours of paper can also work, it will just affect how well you'll be able to see some of the materials that you're working with. So the lighter the colour the better.
  • Paper (ideally white, cartridge - super basic sketch pad, 18" x 24" or something close to that).

ANY assortment of the following (or anything not listed here that you'd like to include): It's absolutely NOT necessary to have everything listed here, but please try to have at least 3-4 of the items below. And please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about materials! info@heyshauna.com

  • Oil pastels, chalk pastels, crayons, pencil crayons, watercolour pencil crayons.
  • Pencils (regular pencils, graphite sticks).
  • Charcoal (compressed or not), Conte
  • Paints (watercolour, acrylics, tempera). NOTE: One type of paint is plenty! If I was to choose one, it would be watercolour.
  • If you don't have paints (or even if you do!), look around your kitchen for things that can be used AS paint (frozen berries, spices, beet sugar, turmeric, cold coffee/tea, beets, hibiscus...).
  • Embroidery thread and embroidery/tapestry needle (you can also use a lighter weight yarn, just make sure you have a needle with an "eye" that's large enough to thread whatever thread or yarn you're using).
  • Collage materials (magazines, books, coloured tissue paper...).
  • Thread scraps, lint, fuzz...
  • Nature objects (that you can smear onto your paper, glue/stitch on, or paint/draw with). Things like flower petals, leaves, grasses, twigs, moss.
  • Objects that can create holes or textures on your paper (hole punch, awl, pattern/seam roller, bamboo skewer...).
  • If you're planning to use collage materials you will need to also have scissors or a utility knife. If you go with the utility knife option, you'll also want a surface to cut on that isn't precious, ideally a cutting mat.
  • For anything that you're wanting to ATTACH to your paper (collage materials, nature objects) please have glue, tape and/or thread (and needle).
  • If you're planning on using pencil crayons or watercolour pencil crayons please also (try to) have a pencil sharpener.
  • If you're planning to work with paint, please also have a jar for water, paint brushes (or q-tip, sponge, tissue, palette knife, or your fingers!), and some sort of rag for dabbing your brush.
  • You may also want to have a couple of rags in general, one damp one dry.

MY WORKSHOPS

These workshops are something that we can do together, from afar, for ourselves and each other ….to hold ourselves and our communities together.

HOW THEY WORK...

  • All of my current workshops are happening online only, on the Zoom platform. Once you've registered through Eventbrite you will receive all of the info that you’ll need to access the workshop on Zoom.
  • Groups are small (max 8 people) & interactive. This means that everyone who attends is visible (via Zoom), and participates in the shared conversation & art-making throughout each 2-hr workshop.
  • Workshops are for adults only (18+).
  • With all workshops happening online, this means that you will need to provide your own art materials. I list all req’d materials (and suggestions for alternatives) on the Eventbrite page, so please check that list BEFORE registering to be sure that you have what you’ll need to participate.
  • PLEASE NOTE that my workshops will NOT be recorded. For reasons of confidentiality, privacy, and because we do share some personal stuff… I don’t record the sessions/workshops, and so recordings are not available as a resource to be sent to you later, or in instances of not being able to attend.
  • These groups are informal, chatty, and very much about sharing time and space ...stories, experiences, thoughts, frustrations, and what-have-you’s.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

  • If you would prefer to pay by e-transfer (rather than through Eventbrite), please go ahead and do that (send to Shauna Kaendo/info@heyshauna.com). Once I’ve received your payment, I will send you a registration code that will allow you to register through Eventbrite (to hold your space). If you choose this option, please send me an email to confirm your name, email, and e-transfer details.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

  • PLEASE NOTE that workshop registrations are refundable within 3 days only.

NOTES ABOUT WORKSHOPS IN GENERAL

  • If you’d like a visual glimpse into what we get up to in my workshops please visit me on Instagram (@heyheyshauna), or at www.heyshauna.com
  • You needn’t have ANY experience with art or art materials to participate (and benefit from) any of my workshops.
  • Groups are small, they are also generous, warm, and supportive... and easily among my favourite things.
  • In all of my workshops, our focus is on exploring different art materials in lots of different ways …and noticing how those different materials and processes make us feel. And while I am here for any technical assistance you may need, our goal is not to focus on technical skill…but instead on curiosity.
