Creative Writing and Exploratory Tools: Theme Needs and Wants
Event Information
About this Event
This session is an opportunity to get to know yourself even better. Take a step back in a safe and relaxed way and learn from challenging situations or people that push your buttons. These “gurus” will show you what you are most passionate about, what you want to protect, what you can control and what you can trust. You will be given prompts to use and time for reflection. There will be the opportunity to discuss your discoveries and plans as a group, although this is optional.

Presented over Zoom, this workshop series offers a chance to experiment and build a set of observational tools. Most importantly, the workshops are a chance to remember how to play. Using techniques unique to drawing and creative writing, you will gain insight and cultivate awareness in a fun way, helping you identify habits, cognitive loops and emotional patterns. The outcome is a toolkit for self-care that can be used to improve concentration, reduce overwhelm and practice self-soothing.
The toolkit is designed specifically for people with AD(H)D, anxiety or depression, and is useful to anyone who wants to practice mindfulness. You don’t have to know how to write or draw to participate. Come ignite your curiosity and creativity, the most important tools of all.
Day of the Workshop - Wear clothes that you associate with feeling comfortable, happy and safe.- Have water, tea, or something to hydrate with nearby.- Have loose-leaf paper and a writing tool.- Set up in a space where you can shift positions and will not be interrupted.
Optional Materials: These tools were designed specifically to be used in the workshops and are available for free, through the generosity of SK ARTS and the NSILC Centre. Email edp@nsilc.com to request your free kit.
### Presented by a local, queer Saskatoon Artist with a writing, research and performance practice. Her work is exhibited and published internationally and has taken her to over 20 countries. She was recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD, anxiety and depression. Through the diagnosis she discovered that many of the strategies she uses in her art practice also double as effective ways to cope with challenging aspects of her neurodiversity. She holds a Masters in Art Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, and has been the recipient of funding from The British Arts Council, The Québec Council for the Arts and the Federal Government of Canada.
### These workshops were made possible through support provided by the following organizations: The Government of Saskatchewan Sask Culture Inc. Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation SK Arts: Artists in Communities *
