“Doing these exercises, I just figured out the answer to a question I’ve been trying to solve for six months. Turns out all I needed was an hour with Rebecca.” - Crystal Bueckert

Presented over Zoom, this workshop series offers a chance to experiment and build a set of observational tools. Most importantly, the workshops are a chance to remember how to play. Using techniques unique to drawing and creative writing, you will gain insight and cultivate awareness in a fun way, helping you identify habits, cognitive loops and emotional patterns. The outcome will be a set of personal guidelines and a toolkit for self-care.
This session is an opportunity to review your year and think about where you want to point your compass for 2021. You will be given prompts to use and time for reflection. There will be the option to discuss your discoveries and plans as a group, although this is not mandatory.
You don’t have to know how to write or draw to participate. Come ignite your curiosity and creativity, the most important tools of all. These tools can be used to improve concentration, reduce overwhelm and practice self-soothing. These activities are important coping mechanisms for people with AD(H)D, anxiety and depression.
Here is a list of supplies used, however you can participate with any kind of writing material and paper. These following materials are available for free at the NSILC Centre. If you're in the Saskatoon area, email edp@nsilc.com to pick up your free kit.
1 Small White Board
1 Dry Erase Marker
1 Yellow Note Pad
1 Yellow Highlighter
2 Sheets of Large Easel Paper
1 Pen
1 Piece of Chalk - Any colour

Presented by a local Saskatoon Artist, made possible through funding provided by the Government of Saskatchewan, and the financial support of SaskCulture Inc., made possible through funding provided by the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. She is a queer Canadian artist with a writing, research and performance practice. Her work is exhibited and published internationally and has taken her to over 20 countries. She was recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD, anxiety and depression. Through the diagnosis she discovered that many of the strategies she uses in her art practice also double as effective ways to cope with challenging aspects of her neurodiversity.
She holds a Masters in Art Writing from Goldsmiths, University of London, and has been the recipient of funding from The British Arts Council, The Québec Council for the Arts and the Federal Government of Canada. This workshop series is funded by SK Arts: Artists in Communities.
